Snorkeling in Hawaii and Dinner in Old Lahaina

More Hawaii. Ok, I'll admit it. The weather in Vancouver stinks right now and looking back through these pictures makes it just a little bit more bearable (along with healthy doses of our Happy Light 6000).
This is the view inland from the beach. Up on the hill is the coffee farm.
 That's me snorkling.
This is me coming out to tell Liz that it looks like Finding Nemo down there.
OK. This picture I pulled off the internet from the beach where I was snorkeling to give you an idea of what I saw.
Here I'm telling Liz that there was a fish this big down there. And there was one that I called a highlighter fish because its looked like someone colored it with several different highlighters.
And then...there was this one fish that was really funny looking.
Apparently it's the state fish of Hawaii. The humuhumunukunukuapua'a which in Hawaiian means "fish that grunts like a pig". And that's my snorkeling adventure.
Here's Liz at dinner. You can't tell from the picture but we're eating on a balcony right on the beach. Waves are crashing against the wall to Liz's left.
Here I am outside Kimo's restaurant after dinner. Downtown Lahaina is pretty cool because the touristy historic downtown is right on the water.

Finally, we got some Hawaiian Shave Ice from Ululani's. Its kind of like a really huge snowcone without that packed ball of ice feel. which brings us full circle back to Canada, the great white north. or more appropriately for Vancouver, the great wet north.

Napili Bay

Our second day in Hawaii started off with Pineapple Coconut Milkshakes and running into an old friend.  We got up at 7am that morning and decided to take a long stroll down the Ka'anapali Beach Walk.  The Beach walk ended up taking us to Whaler Village, an outdoor shopping center right on the beach.  After looking around and exploring the stores we decided to do what anyone would do at 10am in the morning and get some milkshakes from Haagen Dazs.  As we were opening the door to the ice cream shop, we hear a voice say "Liz?".  We turn around and it was Brad Brewer, an old friend from my undergrad days at UNC-Wilmington!!! Crazy!  We seriously run into him everywhere! Wish I had my camera for that moment to get a picture....nonetheless it was fun seeing an old friend in a most unexpected place!

After recovering from our 10k stroll down the Beach Walk, we drove to Napili Bay!  Such a beautiful place! Enjoy the pictures!

Ending the day with a some POG cocktails!

POG is a tropical style juice drink created in 1971 by Mary Soon who worked for Haleakala Dairy on Maui, Hawaii.  The drink consists of a blend of juices from passionfruit, orange and guava fruits..hence the P.O.G.  (definition from wikipedia.com)

Hawaii

It started with a big smile and, "We're going to Hawaii!"
"What?  Are you joking? When?
"Next week...".
"Um, you've got to be kidding...seriously?"

Seriously...I have a wonderful sneaky husband!  For our Anniversary this year, he planned a surprise trip to Maui, HI! Don't know how I didn't figure it out first, but he successfully surprised me! He worked extra hours in the library throughout the school year, saved his "fun money" budget, and he even talked to my manager months in advance for the time off of work! Wow! I'm impressed!

So a week later, we were had our toes in the sand and Cokes in our hands!

Check back later this week for more pictures and blog posts from our trip!
