Vancouver eh?

So....where is Vancouver?  What is the weather like?  Do they speak English there?  Just some common questions and comments we've received.  Here's a list of fun facts about the city we're moving to:
  • On the Pacific Coast (look for the red star on the map)
  • 25 miles north of the US border
  • Surrounded by water on 3 sides and overlooked by the Coast Mountain Range
  • 3rd largest city in Canada
  • One of the warmest Canadian cities! (Temperatures average 72°F in July and 40°F in January)
  • It rains about 165 days a year (Good thing I have some cute rainboots!)
  • It snows less than 10 days per year
  • An international city (35% of the population is foreign born)
  • Hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics
  • Major television and film city, nicknamed "Hollywood North" (3rd largest behind LA and NYC)
  • They use the Metric System (good thing I taught the metric system to my students this past year at school)
  • Stanley Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America is located there!
  • English is the main language
  • About 3,100 miles from Wilmington, NC to Vancouver, BC (That's farther than Barstow!)
I'm sure we'll have more facts for you once we get there!
